The North American nonwovens industry continues to be strong. As the manufacturing segment prepared to celebrate Manufacturing Day on October 2—an event created to promote the importance of manufacturing jobs in the U.S. economy and celebrated the first Friday of every October—nonwovens continue to play an important role in the economy here.
Rockline Industries, one of the world’s largest makers of wipes, will celebrate manufacturing day with joint ceremony with Walmart. This ceremony will recognize Rockline’s decision to add to its facial wipes capacity in Arkansas. The new capacity will mostly serve Walmart as the retailer has pledged to up its purchase of U.S.-made products between now and 2020. The investment will add about 50 jobs to the site, which already employs about 800.
The importance of manufacturing in the U.S. cannot be ignored. Manufacturing accounts for about 17.6 million jobs in the U.S. and represents about 12% of the U.S. Gross Domestic Product.
These investments and others like them show how important nonwovens and related products have been to the health of U.S. manufacturing. From diapers to automobiles, the growing use of nonwovens has helped create jobs and revitalize communities across the Southeast and othe parts of North America for decades.

Meanwhile, on the nonwovens front, two major European producers have decided to set up shop in the Southeast U.S., picking this region over othe lower developed and seemingly higher growth areas like Latin America or China, as their first foreign manufacturing sites. Both Turkey’s Mogul and Germany’s Sandler cited the strength of the North American market as well as the demands of its customers there as the main reasons behind the investments. These investments and others like them show how important nonwovens and related products have been to the health of U.S. manufacturing.
