Stretchable Nonwovens: Major Enabling Technologies and Recent Advancements
Over two decades of research has lead to a broad array of extensible and elastic nonwoven fabrics and composites from films, foams, nets, filaments, bicomponent spunbond, meltblown and other technologies. Key to these advancements are unique elastomers, fabrics, composites, and stretch activation processes for stretchable nonwovens. Many elastomeric polymers have been developed and refined for the nonwovens market including olefin-based elastomers providing good performance at a significantly lower cost than earlier polymers. The personal hygiene market has been a key business driver for stretchable nonwoven developments to date. A key question remains, however, as to the magnitude of future global business opportunity in this high-value, technically sophisticated category of nonwovens. This free Nonwoven Industry webinar will provide an overview of recent developments and review the most important enabling technologies for stretchable nonwovens.
INDA is announcing a new technical report covering the key advancements and market forecast for stretchable nonwovens. The report will be available for sale in November of this year. The report will provide a more detailed look at the underlying technologies, developments by company, market and technology trends and will include a future forecast for these fabrics and the associated cost-benefit assessment in various markets and applications.

Join us for a free webinar featuring discussions on how new technologies are taking the market by storm.
Rory Wolf, vice president of business development and technology manager for Enercon Industries will discuss a New Synergistic Approach to Advancing Nonwoven Functionality. This presentation will focus on the details of a coordinated and systematic approach to developing new functional performance characteristics for nonwovens and technical textiles. Texas Tech University’s Nonwovens and Advanced Materials Laboratory—with its expertise in applying research activities to develop sophisticated expertise in surface modification—has partnered with Enercon Industries—a user of atmospheric plasmas to expand the product-market application opportunities for nonwoven and specialty fabric materials—to make apparel-grade nonwovens and other value-added fabrics, such as liquid-repellant fabrics and breathable protective fabrics.
Also speaking will be Steve Brown, president and general manager of Nonwovens Solutions LLC. , a partnership formed in 1997 to fill a void in the nonwovens supply chain with a very clean, very uniform needlepunched nonwovens operation centrally located in the U.S. In addition to basic needlepunch nonwovens processing, the plant has been further equipped with flame singeing, calendaring and precision slitting in both roll-to-toll and single-knife style. With a history in nonwovens that spans many years and several companies, Mr. Brown will discuss the ultrasonic patterning of needlepunched nonwovens and how this technology is allowing needlepunch to target new market areas.
