Propex To Consolidate Needlepunch Business

Posted on May 2, 2006 @ 06:10 pm

Propex Fabrics will close its Seneca, SC plant as part of a  restructuring and consolidation plan involving its U.S. needlepunch nonwovens manufacturing activities. The plan, expected to save the company between $7-8 million annually, will make Propex’s operations more efficient and therefore improve its overall profitability. Manufacturing assets currently in Seneca will be relocated to Propex’s facility in Ringgold, GA, which will become one of the largest needlepunch facilities in the U.S. The closure will begin in July and is expected to be complete by the end of the year. A small number of the 125 workers employed in Seneca will be relocated as part of the plan.
Propex acquired the Ringgold site as part of its purchase of fellow needlepunch maker SI Corporation earlier this year.
