A system for sensing and indicating the presence of a body exudate in an absorbent article having an absorbent structure, a front region, a crotch region, and an outer cover, the system comprising: a signaling device comprising a housing that houses a detection circuit; a sensor array electrically connected to the detection circuit, wherein the sensor array comprises a plurality of sensors disposed on a single elongated substrate, and wherein the substrate is configured to extend away from the housing from the front region to the crotch region, wherein the plurality of sensors are configured to detect the amount of the body exudate within the absorbent article without making direct contact with the absorbent structure, and wherein the signaling device is configured to provide a signal to a user when a measured value is less than or equal to a predefined threshold value.
