According to a report in the Winston-Salem News Journal, Avgol has received an incentive package from Davie County, NC to expand its nonwovens production facility in Mocksville, NC. Avgol will receive $800,000 toward a reported $40 million expansion at the facility. Under the scope of the project, the Israeli-based nonwovens producer will spend $8 million adding 100,000 square feet to the site and $32 million equipping it with new production assets. The expansion will add 50 new jobs to the site.
Avgol was reportedly considering expansion at all four of its sites—others are in Russia, China and Israel—but the North Carolina plant won out because of the incentive package. The report went on to say that a Mocksville city invcentive package is also in the works.
Avgol purchased the Mocksville site from Unifi in 2002. At the time, the site housed just one nonwovens production line but subsequent expansion projects have brought that number to five. The most recent of these lines was added in 2012 and brought the site's capacity to over 60,000 tons, according to reports.
