Net sales for Ahlstrom were €413 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2012 compared to €423 million for the same period of last year. Operating profit was €13.2 million compared to €20 million. The weaker operating profit was due to exceptional foreign exchange rate fluctuations toward the end of the quarter, impacting mainly the Label and Processing business area. In the meantime, Ahlstrom continued to successfully launch new products including air filtration applications for the automotive and heavy duty vehicle industries.
“We experienced large fluctuations in sales across segments and geographic areas during the second quarter, which is rather typical in a cautious demand environment,” says Jan Lang, CEO. “The filtration business area performed steadily with particularly good progress in Advanced Filtration with highly differentiated materials. China sales were below our expectations, primarily driven by slowing of the building industry.”
For the six month period, sales decreased from €846 million to €819 million while profits decreased from €40 million to €30 million.
