Unicharm adds pulpless diaper

March 6, 2012

Unicharm is launching a thin diaper for adults consisting only of nonwovens and a superabsorbent polymer as the absorber. The absence of pulp has allowed the product to be significantly thinner, about 1mm, and lighter, about 29 grams, than conventional adult diapers, which often weigh as much as 58 grams. These diapers are targeting the institutional setting and will be used in nursing facilities or hospitals.

Although Unicharm accounts for nearly 50% of adult diapers sold in retail outlets in Japan, they are not widely used in institutions.
