Ahlstrom’s sales for the third quarter of 2011 were €371.1 million compared to 416.8 million the prior year. The decline is mostly attributable to the divestment of the company’s Home and Personal Care business area to Suominen in late 2011. Operating profit was €1.7 million compared to €12.7 million last year.
For the full year, sales were €1.6 billion down from €1.63 billion the year before. Operating profit was €49 million compared to €66 million in 2010.
At the end of 2011, Ahlstrom introduced a new vision to crystallize the kind of company it hopes to become in the next five to 10 years and has set ambitious goals that provide us with a roadmap to the future. “In line with our new vision, we took firm steps in executing our strategy,” says Jan Lang, president and CEO. “There were a number of milestones: the acquisition of Porous Power Technologies, the divestment of Home and Personal business and the strategic decision to exit in-house glassfiber manufacturing. We will continue to seek new business opportunities by leveraging our unique products, technologies and know-how.”
