At 1610 meters per minute (60 miles per hour), Dow Corning’s new Syl-Off Advantage Series high-speed, solventless silicone coating system has set a new world speed record for siliconizing paper. Coverage was excellent and there was no visible silicone mist at the coating head—a common problem in high-speed coating. The previous world record for applying solventless silicone release coatings to paper was 1000 meters per minute. Advantage Series coatings have unique crosslinker architectures and require less platinum to cure. This can be a significant cost benefit with escalating platinum prices. Also, a new generation of anti-misting additive prevents the formation of silicone mist at the coating head during high-speed application and release modifiers enable a range of release performance profiles.
