Toray Advanced Materials is expanding capacity for filtration media materials in China. The company first entered this market in 2012 with the manufacture of polypropylene meltblown nonwovens and expanded into filter production in 2013.
Filters currently made by Toray are sold to Japanese air cleaner makers such as Panasonic and Sharp.
Moving forward, Toray is hoping to capitalize on growing demand for filters in China because brought on by growing concerns over air contamination and pollution in the region. This has led Toray to double the capacity of its existing capacity while also expanding its distribution network to include not only Japanese-affiliated companies but also Chinese companies as well as European and American producers with Chinese operations.
