Patented is a disposable diaper comprising a polyolefin film layer bonded to a synthetic nonwoven layer using a low odor hot melt construction adhesive. The adhesive penetrates the fiber of the nonwoven layer to embed the fiber in the adhesive. The construction adhesive comprises greater than about 40 weight percent of a copolymer comprising an ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer having 27±5 weight percent vinyl acetate having a melt index greater than 800 gm-10 min−1. It also has an effective amount less than 40 weight percent of a tackifying resin with a softening point greater than about 100°C and 0-5 weight percent of a wax.
The weight ratio of the copolymer to the tackifying resin is greater than about 1:1 and the construction adhesive provides an initial adhesion between the polyolefin film layer and the synthetic nonwoven layer of at least 90 grams when applied by spiral spray to the polyolefin film layer at about 1 to 8 milligrams of adhesive per square inch.
