Polymeric Web Exhibiting A Soft And Silky Tactile Impression

July 22, 2008

A polymeric web comprising a polymeric film has been granted a patent. The web exhibits a soft and silky tactile impression on at least one side. The silky feeling side of the web exhibits a pattern of discrete generally columnar protruded extensions. The generally columnar protruded extensions are an integral extension of the film. Each of the generally columnar protruded extensions is formed by local plastic deformation of the film and has a side wall defining an open proximal portion and a closed distal portion. A maximum lateral cross-sectional dimension is at or near the open proximal portion. The generally columnar protruded extensions exhibit an average diameter of between 50 microns (0.02 inch) and 130 microns (0.005 inch), and an aspect ratio of from 1 to 3.
