A faced building insulation assembly for insulating wall, ceiling, floor and roof cavities was issued a patent. It comprises a fibrous insulation layer. The insulation layer has a length, a width and a thickness. The insulation layer also has first and second major surfaces defined by the length and width of the layer. A first facing overlaying the first major surface of the insulation layer forms a first major surface of the faced building insulation assembly. The first facing comprises a spunbond continuous polymeric filament mat that consists essentially of continuous filaments selected from a group consisting of polyester, polypropylene and polyethylene filaments. The first facing, bonded to the insulation layer, is fungi-growth resistant. A heat-activated, open polymeric web or mesh, polymeric particulate, or fiberized polymer bonding layer have a lower softening point than the spunbond continuous polymeric filament mat of the first facing, which is located between the first facing and the first major surface of the insulation layer. The first facing is bonded to the first major surface of the insulation layer by the bonding layer. A second facing is bonded to the second major surface of the insulation layer. The second facing forms a second major surface of the faced building insulation assembly. The first facing, as bonded to the first major surface of the insulation layer, has a water vapor permeance rating that of about 5 perms or greater so that the first major surface of the faced building insulation assembly formed by the first facing has a water vapor permeance rating of about 5 perms or greater. The second facing, as bonded to the second major surface of the insulation layer, has a water vapor permeance rating of about 1 perm or less so that the second major surface of the faced building insulation assembly has a water vapor permeance rating of about 1 perm or less.
