An absorbent article with a longitudinal direction and a transverse direction was recently patented. The article comprises an absorption body enclosed in a cover, which has a fluid-permeable surface and a fluid-impermeable surface. The absorption body comprises at least one absorption layer exhibiting a penetrating slit with a first cut edge and a second cut edge. The absorption layer is shaped by the material on both sides of the two cut edges. It moves in a direction essentially at right angles to the slit and is locked in a moved position. The absorption body comprises a unitary structure and the absorption layer is fixed in a predetermined shape by stabilizing means. The stabilizing means includes a binding agent, which is part of the absorption layer.
