A fiber reinforced composite article was recently patented. The article includes a first surface, a second surface opposed to and spaced apart from the first surface, a matrix and reinforcing fibers there between. It has a plurality of discrete regions, each extending completely through the first and second surfaces and the matrix of the article. During operational use, a first region is subjected to a first temperature and a first stress, and includes first fibers with a first strength greater than the first stress. A second region, during use, is subjected to a second temperature less than the first temperature and a second stress greater than the first stress. Second fibers have a second strength greater than the second stress.
