Patented is a tampon for feminine hygiene or medical purposes featuring a nonwoven cover with at least one outwardly directed, smooth surface enclosing a liquid absorbing core. The cover is made of a smooth calendered nonwoven web of bicomponent fibers with at least two different melting points. The outwardly directed surface of the nonwoven cover has a coefficient of static friction of less than 0.4.
