Patent #: 6,706,393

Inventor(s): Vladimir Raskin, Edwin Starke Farley, Frederick Lee Travelute, III

Company: Wellman Inc.

Issued: 2004-02-28

Description:
This patent is for a polyester fiber tow made up of crimped polyester fibers that have substantially uniform primary crimps and substantially uniform secondary crimps. Each uniform secondary crimp includes a number of substantially uniform primary crimps. Each crimped polyester fiber possesses a tensile strenght about the same as the tensile factor possessed by an otherwise identical uncrimped polyester fiber. The average coefficient of primary crimp non-uniformity (Kn) possessed by the polyester fiber tow is less than about 10.8 percent.
