An absorbent article with a longitudinal axis has been patented. The article contains a front portion with a first and second end surrounding a crotch portion. The crotch portion has a first and second side edge and a first and second crotch elastic positioned adjacent to the first and second side edges. Each of the first and second side edges has an end point adjacent to the back portion. The end points are located with a line drawn parallel to the longitudinal axis is, at a maximum distance transversely from the longitudinal axis and passes through the first and second side edges of the crotch portion twice.
The back portion is divided into a first and a second section, with the first section bounded by a first end, a line drawn parallel to the first end, a first side edge and a second side edge. The first section is also extendable in a traverse direction while the second section is bounded by the parallel line, a second end, a first edge and a second edge defining a first area, A3. The parallel line to the first end intersects a pair of corners where the first and second side edges of the first section intersect with the first and second edges of the second section. The second end is parallel to the first and intersects the end points where the first and second side edges of the crotch portion intersect with the first and second edges of the second section. The first section has a length, L2, measured perpendicularly from the first end to the parallel line. The length L2 is equal to or greater than about two inches. The second section has a length, L3, measured perpendicularly from the parallel line to the first to the second end. The length L3 is equal to or greater than approximately one inch.
The second section has a second area, A4, defined by the parallel line to the first and the second end and by a first and a second line. The first and second lines are drawn tangential to the first and second crotch elastics at points where the first and second crotch elastics are spaced closest together. The first and second lines intersect with the second end and with the line drawn parallel to the first end and the back portion has a ratio, A3/A4, ranging from between approximately 2.5-4.0. First and second fasteners are secured to the back portion and an absorbent is secured to one of the front, back or crotch portions, and each of the first and second fasteners are releasably attached to the front portion to form a pant-like article with a waist opening and a pair of leg openings.
