Patented is an absorbent article with a longitudinal and a transverse direction. The article comprises a mid portion and two end portions and is adapted to be worn within a user’s panties. The article contains an absorbent upper and lower part, which are mutually joined. The upper part presents a first liquid-permeable surface, which, during use, faces the user, and a second surface, which faces towards the liquid-permeable surface on the lower part. The lower part has a second, liquid-impermeable surface on the article’s side which, during use, faces away from the user. A means for obtaining and maintaining an elongate cavity is featured between the upper part’s second surface and the lower part’s first surface. The mid portion of the article has an upper and lower part in the elongate cavity and is mutually separated by a predetermined distance of 0.3-5 mm. The distance is maintained during use of the article irrespective of a user’s posture. The elongate cavity permits some liquid to flow from the user into the elongate cavity without first passing through other components of the article.
