Patented is an absorbent article featuring a longitudinal and transverse centerline, two longitudinal sides, a target zone and a body side. The article comprises a liquid-impervious backsheet and a liquid-pervious topsheet surrounding a lower absorbent member. The lower absorbent member contains a pair of spaced-apart, substantially longitudinal crease lines in the target zone disposed on opposite sides of the article's longitudinal centerline. A horizontal wicking barrier with a width is disposed above the lower and middle absorbent members is less than the distance between the crease lines in the target zone. The middle absorbent member is disposed above the horizontal wicking barrier and an upper absorbent member has longitudinal sides and a width in the target zone that is greater than the width of the middle absorbent member and less than the width of the horizontal wicking barrier.
