Location: Hamptonville, NC Business Segment: Thermal Acoustical - Fibers Segment
The Thermal/Acoustical – Fibers segment offers a full line of innovative engineered products to assist in noise and heat abatement within the transportation sector. Lydall products are found in the interior (dash insulators), underbody (wheel well, fuel tank, exhaust) and under hood (engine compartment) of cars, trucks, SUVs, heavy duty trucks and recreational vehicles. Thermal/Acoustical Fibers segment products offer thermal and acoustical insulating solutions comprised of organic and inorganic fiber composites for the automotive and truck markets primarily in North America. The Fibers business segment employs approximately ~500 employees operates in Hamptonville, North Carolina with a Sales and Technical Center in Detroit, Michigan.
Job Summary: Responsible for conducting all relevant aspects of new or existing product development opportunities within the fiber based product families. These activities will include overseeing the testing, materials research, new vendor relations and any significant process development.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform preliminary cost matrix for any new product concepts or current product modifications within product unit.
- Assist Sales and Applications Engineering with penetrating new applications and customers (utilizing Product Road Maps, Product Benchmarking, and translating V.O.C. information into customer solutions).
- Assist operations in developing improved processes.
- Visit annual symposiums for latest market trends in technology or scientific development
- Optimize current product lines through material research and process optimization (supporting Kaizen Events and Lean Manufacturing initiatives).
- Develop next-generation materials as defined by management (utilizing Technology Road Maps).
- Work with Applications Engineers and Sales to develop any new OEM specification(s) needed to qualify new products and penetrate given market(s).
- Responsible for managing all new product release requirements as defined in the APQP Gated Development Process (includes transition of new approved products from R&D into Product and Applications Engineering).
- Immediately report any unsafe act or condition

- Serve as an active participant in LSS programs that promote continuous improvement
- Must adhere to all company and location policies and safety rules
- Must be able to work extended hours when required

Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required for Consideration as a Candidate:

- Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering, Textile Engineering or Materials Science Engineering.
- 3 – 5 years of Research and Development experience with new products and technologies
- Nonwoven or textile experience
Additional Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

- Thermal and Acoustic experience preferred
- Automotive experience preferred
