The global nonwovens industry has an excellent opportuni- ty during the next few months not only to extend its knowl- edge in the consumer products arena, but to support the industry as well. NONWOVENS INDUSTRY is excited to be a part of it.
The inaugural Vision 2002 Consumer Products Con- ference, sponsored by INDA, is scheduled for January 21-23, 2002 in New Orleans, LA. It is the first time an industry-spon- sored conference dedicated to the consumer products segment of our business will be held in the U.S. We are giving our endorsement to this much-needed event for one simple reason: it will help our readers do more business.
Consumer products are by far the largest users of nonwo- vens and there is hardly an equipment vendor, raw material supplier, packager or converter whose business is not touched daily by this segment. From the obvious—diapers and feminine hygiene products—to the less visible—filtration media and household products—consumer products owe much of their success to the technical developments offered by our industry. On the flip side, the nonwovens industry owes a debt to the con- sumer products business, as millions of square yards of nonwo- ven fabric are used in these diapers, wipes and filters every year.
The allure of the INDA Consumer Products Conference and EDANA's brand new Absorbents Conference (set for September 19-21 in Monte Carlo) is that they are being run by the industry and for the industry. The vital information exchange and informal networking among the industry's key players will be complemented by the proceeds being rein- vested in the business of nonwovens.
INDA has put together an Advisory Board for Vision 2002— including myself—and promises to organize a first-rate, global conference covering the important aspects of the consumer products industry. Sessions will focus on emerging markets, R&D and product advances, legislative issues and marketing. A new awards program will also be announced shortly that will recognize the best new products in this segment.
