A team of Indian business men have developed a range of women’s hygiene and wellness products including the PeeBuddy and Sirona Range. It currently includes herbal feminine pain relief patches, oxo-biodegradable sanitary disposal bags, intimate wet wipes, applicator tampons, underarm sweat pads and natural mosquito patches and bands.
PeeBuddy’s original product is a stand-up female urination device that helps women always have a clean place to pee. Company founder Deep Bajaj came up wit the idea in 2014 while on a trip to Jaipur.
According to Unicef, about 792 million people in India do not have access to an improved sanitation facility. Women are more affected because there is limited access to public toilets and they don't have the ability to urinate standing up. PeeBddy allows women to stand and pee, averting the risk of contracting infections in dirty toilets. The team of researchers established parent company First Step Digital in 2015 to take on this and other challenges.
“Women have a lot on their plates these days," says Bajaj, who founded the company with partners Mohit Bajaj and Deepak Thareja. “We believe our products can assist them in taking care of their intimate hygiene and wellness needs in many situations which are not discussed openly including lack of friendly toilets, menstrual pains, sanitary disposal, etc. Our intent is to assist women to travel, live and operate better."
The team has sold over 100,000 bags of PeeBuddy to date. The company's products are available online in some retail outlets in India.
First Step recently raised about $443,000 funding from an Indian Angel Network, which will allow it to continue to solve hygiene challenges affecting the female population.
