The RKW Group, a global manufacturer of plastic films and nonwovens, says it is gearing up for further profitable and global growth. Some manufacturing capacity is being consolidated, which although a natural conclusion of recent acquisitions and growth, leads to the closure of two production sites. The plants affected are RKW Werra in Philippsthal, Germany, which legally belongs to RKW Agri GmbH & Co. KG, and RKW Iter S.A.U. in Zaragoza, Spain. The closures will affect around 180 people.
Products manufactured at the Zaragoza facility include printed films for the beverage and hygiene industry. The portfolio of the RKW plant in Philippsthal covers mainly films for the agriculture market.
Unsatisfactory rates of return and a focus on some core products have necessitated this consolidation.
“Whilst these decisions are extremely difficult to make, they are vital for securing the long-term success and positioning of the RKW Group,” says Harald Biederbick, CEO of the RKW Group. “Our focus at the moment is equally on our employees and on our customers. We are committed to ensuring proper assistance to affected staff. We expect a smooth transfer of business to sister sites, thus ensuring business continuation for our valued customers.”
