Polypore International, Inc. has completed the sale of its Separations Media business segment to 3M Company. Additionally, the acquisition of Polypore by Asahi Kasei has been finalized and, going forward, Polypore will operate as a core operating company of the Asahi Kasei Group. Polypore and Asahi Kasei will work together to integrate their technology and expertise to maximize synergies that will enable further development and growth of the battery separator business.
A specialist in highly-engineered microporous membranes used in electric drive vehicles, energy storage, emergency backup systems and personal electonics, Polypore International, based in Charlotte, NC, announced the plan to sell its business earlier tis year. Under the terms of the agreement, Asahi Kasei is buying Polypore through a U.S. subsidiary for $60.50 per share while 3M is purchasing the separations business for $1 billion.
