Modular Air Dryer for Breathable Membranes

December 1, 2010

Mondi Belcoat met market demand for customized breathable membranes with the installation of a new modular air dryer, which enables the plant to include the extrusion coating of hydrophilic polymers on nonwovens in its portfolio.

“The new polydryer supports a continuous production process of moisture sensitive polymers, ranging from master batches to breathable monolithic polymers and polyester,” said Jurgen Van der Donck, managing director of Mondi Belcoat.

Customers are said to benefit from this upgrade for all applications that demand optimum barrier control and breathability—including breathable roofing membranes with UV stability and mattress covers, as well as medical disposable products such as drapes and gowns. The polydryer allows Mondi to produce unique, state-of-the-art breathable products according to the highest quality standards and ensures maximum flexibility when tailoring the coating layer to the customer´s requirements. v
