Melt Additives

May 1, 2009

Goulston Technologies has introduced two melt additives for the plastics, nonwovens and fibers industries. Long known for topical treatments, Goulston has invested con_siderable time and resources to bring these extrusion additives to market.

Hydrepel is a trademarked line of masterbatch products for polypropylene resins. Hydrepel alters the contact angle and imparts extreme hydrophobicity to a polypropylene surface. When dosed with as little as 3% Hydrepel, polypropylene SMS fabrics show excellent repellency against water, ethanol and isoproponal. Additionally, the melt additive imparts softness to the polypropylene and has no negative effect on MD or CD tensile strength. In thin olefin films, initial tests show very good alcohol repellency can be achieved.

GPA-100E is a specially formulated product engineered to increase the IV of PET resin.

This product builds IV without cross linking, a problem associated with competitive products. GPA-100E is effective at low dosing levels (<0.5%) and is effective in recycled or virgin PET. It works equally well in film, fiber, nonwovens and strapping.
