Two of Sibur Holding’s Russian subsidiaries—Orton OJSC (based in Kemerovo) and Plastik OJSC (Uzlovaya, Tula region)—have signed procurement contracts for equipment to be used in the manufacture of geosynthetic materials. Each of the Sibur facilities will have an annual production up to 10,000 tons of nonwoven materials and 1500 tons of geonetting.
Italy-based O.R.V. Manufacturing SpA will supply two production lines for nonwoven polypropylene materials with a total annual capacity of up to 20,000 tons. Chinese company Shunde Plastic Machine will supply two lines for the manufacture of flat geonetting from polypropylene, with a total capacity of 3000 tons per year.
The new Orton plant is scheduled to come onstream next summer while the Plastik facility is slated for an autumn 2009 start-up. The production lines are expected to operate at full capacity by 2010 and sibur plans to supply up to 20% of domestic demand for geosynthetic materials in Russia.
It is estimated that Russia produced approximately 35,000 t of nonwoven polypropylene materials and 1500 tons of geonetting in 2007, compared to domestic demand levels of 68,000 tons and 16,000 tons respectively.
Sibur’s geotextile plant in Surgut currently produces up to 3000 tons of nonwoven materials.
