Ahlstrom has recently reported sales and earnings information for 2007. For the October-December quarter, net sales amounted to €462.5 million, growing by 23.3% (adjusted for currency effect) from the fourth quarter of 2006 as a result of good demand in the FiberComposites segment and Technical Papers business area, as well as recent growth initiatives.

Net sales for the full year grew by 10.1% and amounted to €1.76 million, up from €1.59 million in 2006. As a result of the restructuring measures taken during the fourth quarter, operating profit amounted to €25.8 million, a drop from €96.1 million during the year-earlier period. As part of the restructuring, Ahlstrom decided to close four plants, which incurred an operating loss of €4.3 million in addition to the restructuring costs.

In the FiberComposites segment, which comprises three business areas, Nonwovens, Filtration and Glass Nonwovens, fourth quarter net sales grew significantly by 27.8% and amounted to €249.7 million, representing 54% of the group's net sales. The growth was mainly a result of recent acquisitions, growth investments and continued good demand. Sales volumes increased by 39.8%.
