Swedish hygiene and packaging company SCA AB plans to establish a joint venture in the Middle East through the acquisition of a 50% stake in Jordan-based Nuqul's Feminine Care business.
With an $18.5 million purchase price, the new company will manufacture and sell feminine hygiene products in 18 countries across the Middle East. The joint venture will have immediate access to Nuqul's production facilities and distribution network in the region, while SCA will provide it with its existing feminine product range, technology and marketing expertise.
“This joint venture gives us a unique platform for entering Egypt and the main markets of the Middle East with our successful feminine hygiene products,” said an SCA spokesperson. The company also described the outlook for the female hygiene market in the region as “positive,” with as much as a third of the population in the key markets being 14 years of age or younger.
