K-C Updates Healthcare Wipes Offering

October 3, 2007

New tool Reduces healthcare-acquired infections associated with contaminated environmental surfaces.

Kimberly-Clark Professional provides infection control practitioners and environmental services professionals in healthcare facilities a new option for surface cleaning and disinfection with a smaller canister version of its popular Kimtech Prep wipers for the Wettask refillable wet wiping system. The new canister is easily portable, making it ideal for surface sanitation in patient rooms and other areas where the original bucket version may be too large.

The new smaller canister holds a 35-count roll of 12- x 12.5-inch sheets of Kimtech Prep wipers for bleach, disinfectants and sanitizers. These wipers are engineered to be compatible with quaternary amine and bleach disinfectant solutions, maintaining the concentration of actives released to the surface at target concentration levels.

“Infection control practitioners, environmental services professionals, nurses and others responsible for reducing the incidence of healthcare-acquired infections, may be surprised to learn that traditional methods of surface sanitation may not work as expected,” says Valerie Williamson, category manager, Kimberly-Clark Professional.  “Recent studies have found, for example, that when cotton rags or cellulose-based wipes were used in combination with an open bucket of disinfectant solution, the amount of germ-killing actives released to the surface was significantly reduced from the original concentration in the bucket. These same studies found that Kimtech Prep wipers for bleach, disinfectants and sanitizers, used in combination with the enclosed Wettask refillable wet wiping system, delivered a much higher concentration of disinfectant actives to the surface.”
