Kuraray started production of a pilot steam jet nonwovens plant in November 2006. The nonwovens made at the plant are made by entwining fibers by jetting high temperature steam and are currently under application development. The pilot plant will make 1000 tons of material annually and Kuraray plans to introduce a new plant capable of annually producing 3000 tons in 2007 or 2008 and then increase production until it becomes one of its major nonwoven products, according to Nonwovens Industry Far East consultant Kin Ohmura.
