The first meeting of the new Converting Influence group was held in mid October at the Bordini Center of St. Norbert College in DePere, WI with more than 70 particpants attending the one-half day kickoff meeting. Representatives from more than 40 converting and related companies were in attendance. Mostly coming from Northeast Wisconsin, those attending included producers of food service napkins, medical drapes, wet wipes and foil-pouched flexible packaging. In addition, a number of outside-of-the-Valley companies attended including Milwaukee-area Glenroy Inc. (Menomonee Falls), Kleen Test Products (Port Washington), Rockline Industries (Sheboygan) and Curt Joa Company (Sheboygan Falls). Coming from northern Wisconsin were companies ranging from Wausau Paper Company's converting division people from Brokaw and Top Brass, packaging specialists from Wittenberg, WI.
"It was really helpful to learn about the services of other companies," noted Robert Shade, Sierra Coating, Green Bay. "We have a better idea of who to turn to when we need converting partners with other capabilities."
"Your story needs to be told," Wisconsin state senator Robert Cowles told the group after listening to the presentations. "Converting has a lot more impact than is realized by the public in terms of employment and growth." Cowles also offered to assist the group in telling its story to the Wisconsin Commerce Department and others.
The Converting Influence group's next meeting will be held January 17 at Appleton's Fox Valley Technical College where tabletop exhibit space and a tour of the printing facilities will be added to the agenda.
The meeting included presentations from American FlexPack, American Custom Converting and S&S Specialty Systems.
