Shiseido Exits San Pro Biz

June 1, 2006

Unicharm has acquired Shisheido’s sanitary goods business. Shiseido, Japan’s leading cosmetics company, entered the san pro business in 1986 with the production of sanitary napkins but has so far only achieved a 5% share of this market and did not have any strong growth prospects, according to Nonwovens Industry Far East correspondent Kin Ohmura. Japan’s san pro market is dominated by four major producers—Unicharm, Kao, Procter & Gamble Far East and Daio Paper.
