Plans are underway at Ahlstrom Corporation, Helsinki, Finland, to add proprietary nanofiber production capabilities in North America, particularly for its filtration business. The new line will allow Ahlstrom to apply nanofibers to a variety of filtration and nonwoven media. Nanofibers are recognized in filtration to enhance the efficiency and life cycles of filters while maintaining other key performance characteristics.
“The addition of this technology to Ahlstrom’s portfolio will bring significant advantages across our global product offerings,” commented Randal Davis, senior vice president filtration. “Not only will our traditional engine filtration media be enhanced, but we plan to bring nanofibers to other applications in air and liquid filtration.”
The line will be located in Ahlstrom’s Madisonville, KY plant and will serve markets globally. It is expected to be operational by early 2006.
